Gretchen and McClusky's dog are in very similar situations. To begin, they both are hurt by the one who shoud be protecting them. A father is supposed to protect his children, not hurt them. A dog owner is supposed to care for and protect their dog. Thats is not the case in this book, so thats a similarity. Also both of them dont know what its like to NOT be abused, they both have been abused their whole life so it almost seems unescapable. Like when Cal lets the dog free and it goes right back to its owner. just how Gretchen is being abused but she still goes home because she thinks she is unable to escape her father. Also they are both pitiful, when you look at either you just want to help them. I wanted to help feed th dog, and show it love. I wanted to buy Gretchen new clothes, feed her, do her hair, and show her love. Its okay though because in the end they both are saved by the Gant Family, they both wind up in familes who give them the treatment they need.Although they do have similariies
