This whole experience teaches another very important lesson, that actions have consequences. Its a very important lesson. Hester makes the decision to have sex while she is married and this results in a child and punishment. Dimmesdale keeps a secret and it in turn tortures him pretty much to death. Dimmesdale is the epitome of a hypocrite, not a label people should want. He is a minister who is also an adulterer. In his role as pastor, he should be above reproach and his parishioners assume him to be so even though he is a sinner.
I hope that my descendants living in Boston can continue to live prosperously and to be good humans.
